Significance: Day transformed post-war design in Britain with his modern style and interest in mass-production. In particular he experimented with modern materials, including plastics in which context he recognised the opportunities offered by injection moulding. His Polyprop chair, of which the Polo is a variant, was the first chair to be made of polypropylene. It is still in production and is thought to have been made in greater numbers than any other mass-produced chair.
