MoDiP’s ongoing essential curatorial work is punctuated by funded projects, which run for fixed time spans and enable us to investigate and benefit from a wide and varied range of museum practices.

They include:

  • improvements to our documentation practice as a result of the MoDiP Digitsation (MoDiPDiP) project, supported by the JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee);
  • a means of evaluating and increasing accessibility to collections with support from the Esmée Fairbairn Effective Collections fund;
  • development of expertise in the creation, management, and use of digitized library, museum and archive collections as a participant in the JISC funded ‘Look here’ project;
  • creation of guides (A curator's guide to plasticsIndentifying plastics toolkit & A curator's guide to synthetic garments) relating to the identification and preservation of plastics under the egis of the Plastics SSN with support from the Museums Galleries and Archives Commission, Arts Council England and Art Fund;
  • exploration of leading-edge curatorial practices, as in the 10 Most wanted project funded by the Digital Research and Development  Fund for the Arts, a partnership between Nesta, the Arts Council England and the Arts and Humanities Research Council;
  • exploration of models of industry for small specialist museums through Symbiosis: model of of resilience for small specialist museums.
  • artists residencies, for example that of Mariele Neudecker, leading to Plastics Vanitas, and of Karen Wimhurst, leading to w-RAP, a plastics symphony for a synthetic century, both supported by Arts Council England’s Grants for the Arts

External funding is crucial to MoDiP’s sustainability and we are therefore grateful to the many organisations that have funded these different aspects of our work.
