Born: 1959
Education: Studied 3D design with a specialism in silversmithing at Leicester Art School.
Career: Won several design competitions including the Johnson Matthey Silver Award in 1982 and a bursary from the R.C.A. 1985-97 developed Ziro the contemporary watch and clock company. Current design company producing Nio collections. Red Dot Award for product design in 2008.
Notable Designs: io and Nio ranges of innovative and distinctive designs of everyday products and contemporary classics.
Significance: Acrylic particularly lends itself to a high gloss finish and is easy to colour, hence the range of vibrant shades available. The mill has a very distinctive look and its clean, innovative styling is typical of Hemming's designs.
