Transatlantic cable being laid from rear of ship. Photo caption: In this photograph taken of H.M.T.S. Monarch during the laying of the Anglo-Danish coaxial submarine cable. The cable is seen passing under the dynamometer (which registers tension on cable) whilst paying out. Cable of this kind is insulated with polyethylene on account of its excellent high frequency characteristics. This item is part of the MoDiP BXL collection.
