Description

A puffin (pedestrian user-friendly intelligent) pedestrian crossing demand unit, comprising a push button beneath a screen that displays a small green walking figure to denote when it is safe to cross the road, beneath a stationary red figure to illustrate when it is not, both lit by LED. The housing is made of die-cast aluminium with a polycarbonate (PC) screen glued into place and a polypropylene (PP) tactile cone (see AIBDC : 009363) installed inside. The unit's wrap around shape is designed to fit snugly to a 114mm diameter pole and the unit has been treated with an exterior grade, UV resistant, polyester powder coat for durability. Succeeding the pelican crossing, which had the pedestrian signal lights mounted on the opposite side of the road, a puffin crossing has lights at the nearside, providing a more accessible view. Manufactured by AGD Systems Limited, this example was gifted to the museum by Yunex Traffic who supply, install and maintain traffic signal and control equipment for the BCP council.
