Filmophone flexible record

Description

A traslucent flexible record released in 1931 by Filmophone Flexible Records. Made from cellulose acetate the disc has recordings of 'Two Eyes of Grey' and 'I Did Not Know, both sung by John Coleman. This example is complete with a generic cardboard sleeve. A 1d copyright or royalty stamp is present on both sides of the recording. Filmophone was a type of flexible record, introduced by Filmophone Flexible Records Ltd for the UK market in 1930. They were initially offered in a range of colours and sold for 2/6-. The lightweight, flexible discs did not always lay flat on the turntable so a cardboard carrier or sleeve was supplied which could be cut to provide a flat base between the turntable and the record. They ceased production in 1932.

printed: "FILMOPHONE FLEXIBLE RECORDS This new record has many advantages over other records and gives the finest reproduction. The record is an innovation and new points arise in playing. Carry out these simple suggestions and obtain the best results. 1. Use the Filmophone Needle. It is the best needle for any record, but particularly for the Filmophone record which does not require a sharply pointed needle dragging on its base. Any ordinary needle which has been used several times (and not removed from the sound-box) will give good results also. 2. Many turntables are corrugated. (They have indentations in them over which the needle bumps when using a flexible record). Use a piece of cardboard on top of the turntable. This makes it level and the needle rides smoothly. We have provided this for you on the patented cardboard container. Simply cut around the marked lines, and a handy round cardboard disc properly centred is readily at hand. 3. If you have a rubber mat, put it on the gramophone table. This grips the record and avoids the possibility of slipping which might occcur with heavy tone-arms. CARRY OUT THESE SUGGESTIONS AND OBTAIN WONDERFUL RESULTS! FILMOPHONE FLEXIBLE RECORDS LTD. 12 Oval Road. Camden Town. London. N.W.1. NEITHER HEAT NOR WATER AFFECT THESE RECORDS.
