Description
The WaterWheel (TM) is a water carrying device designed to assist with the collection and carrying of water, helping alleviate the drudgery of water collection. Its development by Wello was the result of a series of pilot projects across India by a design team who engaged with thousands of potential users. It saves time for communities and households in which people carry water in containers on their heads and who have to walk significant distances to collect it. Its form was inspired by the shape of the matka, an earthenware pot traditionally used for water storage in the home. Wello Water is a social venture whose mission is to effectively deliver clean water. They have developed a business model that enables them to offer the WaterWheel (TM) at an affordable price. It is manufactured by Nilkamal in Ahmedabad, India. The 45 litre capacity high density polyethylene drum rolls on its side with the help of a symmetrical handle bar. It has reinforced axels that protect the outer skin of the WaterWheel (TM) from wear and tear and handholds on either side provide better handling whilst filling and emptying. The balanced shape is designed to increase performance over rough terrain. Measurements given are for the drum.
