Description

A complete, upper denture, made from acrylic resin. This prosthetic device has been made to replace missing teeth in the maxillary (upper) arch and would be held in place by natural suction to the underlying gum, although a dental adhesive can also be used if required. Dentures are designed to be worn during the day, removed and left in a cleaning solution overnight. From the 1930s, acrylic became the preferred material for making both the denture plate and teeth which previously had been made from a variety of materials including gold, ivory, vulcanite and porcelain.
