Description

A pedal bin designed by Martyn Rowlands for Ekco Plastics Ltd in the 1950s. This bin is made of white injection moulded polystyrene and has a red lid which hinges up when the pedal is pressed down with the users foot. According to the associated patent application filed in 1956, the bin is light enough in weight and opens wide enough, that the need for an internal container is no longer required. To empty the bin, it can be picked up by the metal frame and tipped up, as the bin is inverted the lid opens automatically.
