Jacket, 1997

Polyurethane

Source

MoDiP.

History

Acquired by MoDiP from a shop and therefore unused.

Material

The jacket is made of cotton and has a shiny transparent coating of the featured material, polyurethane. It has metal buttons.

Degradation

Degradation of the coating was first noted in 2014. It has gone matt and opaque and is peeling off along the creases and stress points.

Degradation typical of the material not visible in this example

Discolouration.

Treatments

The damage cannot be reversed. The speed of degradation might be slowed down were it to be kept in an oxygen free environment as the degradation is caused by oxidation.

Display and storage

It should be displayed on a padded form to reduce further stress to the shoulders. It should be stored flat with padding between the layers. Follow standard practice: keep in a stable environment and, when not on display, in the dark.
