Pros and cons
Potential of injection moulding
- Can produce an extensive range of shapes, simple and geometrically complex.
- Capable of considerable precision and repeatable high tolerances.
- Can produce forms varying greatly in size.
- Produces high volumes of the same forms cost effectively.
- Can be used with a wide range of materials including all thermoplastics, some thermosets and some elastomers.
- Little finishing required after removal from the mould.
Limitations of injection moulding
- Can only produce a hollow form with an opening wider than its body diameter.
- Set up costs too high for small runs of products.
