Pros and cons

Potential of injection moulding

  • Can produce an extensive range of shapes, simple and geometrically complex.
  • Capable of considerable precision and repeatable high tolerances.
  • Can produce forms varying greatly in size.
  • Produces high volumes of the same forms cost effectively.
  • Can be used with a wide range of materials including all thermoplastics, some thermosets and some elastomers.
  • Little finishing required after removal from the mould.

Limitations of injection moulding

  • Can only produce a hollow form with an opening wider than its body diameter.
  • Set up costs too high for small runs of products.
