MoDiP's logo

The designing of MoDiP's logo and accompanying marketing material was set as a live brief to Arts University Bournemouth's FdA Visual Communication students.

The students received the the following brief which was supplement by a more detailed verbal brief delivered in person by the Head of Marketing and Communications and the Head of MoDiP.

Background

The College's existing 'Design Collection Museum' consists of a unique collection of contemporary plastics-related objects, including material related to; Fashion; Beauty and Costume; Electrical; Audio Visual; Printed Ephemera; Packaging; Calculators and Computers; Photographic and Domestic Design.

The Project

In autumn 2007, the museum will emphasise this plastics specialism and be re-named Museum of Design in Plastics. Importantly, we wish the museum to become known as MoDiP and this should be considered in the design of the logo and other materials, with an emphasis on the acronym as well as the full title.

We wish to commission the design of a new logo and marketing material. Key brand messages will include unique, broad appeal, interesting, accessible to students, contemporary.

The new logo will also have an agreed tagline of "An AUB specialist research resource" which should be used where relevant. It will also need to complement and sit well with the existing AUB logo.

Specific Deliverables

  • A logo (with tagline version)
  • A leaflet giving specific information about MoDiP
  • A postcard promoting MoDiP
  • A poster for internal use promoting MoDiP to Institute students (specifically highlighting use of museum resources and products on a variety of projects)

Approval Process

Approval of the logo and all deliverables will be given by members of the Museum Committee, with final approval by the Principal.

Exhibition

The students were also asked to put together an exhibition to illustrate their design process as shown here.
