Description

A Japanese kogai hairdressing tool, used for lifting the hair into a bun shape. Traditionally this long slender tool was carried in a slot on the back of a Katana (a Japanese sword characterized by a curved, single-edged blade) scabbard. This example exploits the natural colour bands of the horn to create pattern. Circa 1868 to 1912
