Hoof nit comb

Description

A double sided dust or nit comb made from hoof. English, 19th century. Commonly referred to as 'German Shell' in the comb trade, hoofs were subjected to 300 tons of pressure to produce small, semi-transparent plates from which combs could be cut. This natural plastic item forms part of the Worshipful Company of Horners collection.
