Hand cut horse comb

Description

A hand cut, white horn horse comb, c. 1820. The term 'white horn' indicates that the horn has not been subjected to boiling or pressing between heated dies. The comb is thought to have been used in grooming the winter coat before the habit of clipping which began during the early 1820s. This natural plastic item forms part of the Worshipful Company of Horners collection.
