Victory stick

Description

A decorative stick carved by Norman Tulip, entitled the Victory Stick. The stick has a circle of horn which holds a disc with a photograph of Field Marshall Montgomery on one side and Winsotn Churchill on the other. Churchill can be seen in conventional pose wearing a bowler hat, his hand raised in the 'V' sign; above the 'nose' is a carving of a 'Tomy' standing to attention. The handle is left plain until the horn meets the shaft, where there is a carved head of a bulldog and a hand displaying the 'V' sign beneath. Norman Tulip requested the signatures from Montgomery , Eisenhower and Churchill and once received by him the replicas were burnt into the horn. The shank of the stick is decorated with 18 flags. It is signed with the 'reef knot', frequently used by Tulip as his signature, at the top of the staff. This natural plastic item forms part of the Worshipful Company of Horners collection.
