Knitting needle sheath

Description

A knitting sheath in buffalo horn, c 1900. Knitting sheaths were in common use in the north of England , Scotland and Scandinavia. It was placed on the end of the knitting needle and tucked into the arm-pit or belt, which left the hands free to work the woollen threads. This natural plastic item forms part of the Worshipful Company of Horners collection.
