Poppit bead pearl necklace

Description

A necklace comprising 93 pearlised Poppip beads, all of a uniform size and colour. Each cream coloured bead measures approximately 7.6mm in diameter. This example is accompanied by a red ribbon tag with a printed metalised label. Poppit beads, made from injection moulded polyethylene, were popular in the 1950s. Each bead has a protruding stem with a ball finial on one side, and a corresponding socket in the opposite side. When pushed together, the beads form a continuous 'string' without the aid of a thread. This item forms part of the Plastics Historical Society (PHS) collection.
