Description

Skimmer I and II. Photo caption: Skimmer I and II, the two boats shown here, are constructed by Meadcroft Limited from Bakelite polyester resin and in September 1958 made a return crossing of the English Channel from Folkestone to Cap Gris Nez in difficult sea conditions. Reports by the crews indicated that both boats withstood the conditions perfectly, handled well, preserved their directional stability and were never in any danger of capsizing. The hulls showed no sign of the very heavy battering received. The 10-ft long Skimmer I, designed as a fast runabout for the family, can be easily transported on a car top roof rack and is the smallest craft of its kind ever to make the Channel crossing. This item is part of the MoDiP BXL collection.
