Finger cigarette ring

Description

A Hollywood Finger Cigarette Ring point-of-sale marketing display stand, including 24 differently coloured and sized plastics rings. Each ring has a hook on the top, designed to hold a cigarette so that the user could smoke hands-free. Photograghs on the marketing board illustrate where that might be desirable, such as when driving, dialing a telephone, playing golf etc. Small paper instruction sheets are also included to be given away to customers with each purchase. The rings are injection moulded in polyethylene and date to 1954, manufactured in North Hollywood, California, USA by Collins. Various patents for finger ring cigarette holders have been found in both the UK and US dating from 1914, with particular focus in the 1930s and 1950s. They were promoted primarily as a way of preventing nicotine staining of the skin. Dimensions given are for the display stand.
