Description
A pair of Capulet Juliet D3O Pointe shoes made by dance shoe manufacturer Capulet, with a D30 shock-absorbing liner. Designed in 2006 as a collaboration between Capulet, D3O and Sprout Design to develop a technologically advanced, innovative and comfortable ballet pointe shoe. The Juliet contains a liner called 'the angel' which has a head, two wings and a body: the body acts as the shank to provide support for the arch of the foot, the wings act as the vamp and wrap around the toes, and the head acts as the box to protect the toes en pointe. The result is a ballet shoe that still looks traditional but which is more comfortable, durable (claimed to last up to twenty times longer than traditional pointe shoes), absorbs sound and absorbs shock on impact to reduce the risk of injury. D3O is an intelligent polymer based upon the movement of fluid and which behaves very differently according to speed: it is soft and flexible at low speed but the molecular bonds lock together on impact/high speed thus providing protection. The intelligent molecules inside the Juliet flow freely for comfort when dancing, but lock together to absorb jarring on landing from jumps.
