Ducting

A length of orange coloured twin wall ducting, used specifically for the installation of traffic signals and street lighting. Made of high density polyethylene (HDPE), the smooth, interior surface enables cabling to be pulled through easily without snagging, whilst the corrugated exterior provides strength to withstand the high compressive forces beneath paths or roads. Although it can be affected by UV, the lifespan of this ducting, when installed underground, is expected to be in excess of fifty years. In manufacture, the material is first extruded into a two-part mould, with a pulley system moving both halves of the mould past the fixed extrusion point. They rotate into place and join up with neighbouring moulds to create a continuous length of ducting. Vacuum pressure ensures the material adheres to the mould and on cooling, the moulds separate and rotate around to begin a new section of ducting.
