Description
A group of three circular tokens, injection moulded in cellulose acetate in red (1d), blue (2d) and brown (3d) colours. The token value is moulded into the top face and 'Borough of Accrington' around a coat-of-arms into the reverse. Used widely on public transport across the country, the plastics tokens were issued by local councils as concessionary fare tokens for certain groups of people under their jurisdiction, eg. schoolchildren. Anecdotal evidence suggests the tokens were occasionally given out as change which then could only be used on further bus/tram travel. These examples likely date circa 1950s-1960s.
