Description
A group of six circular tokens, injection moulded in polystyrene (PS), in white (1d), blue (2d), brown (2 1/2d), pink (3d) and yellow (5d) colours. In two sizes, the token value is moulded into the top face with 'Barrow-in-Furness Corporation' on the reverse of the four larger tokens and 'Barrow-in-Furness Corporation Transport' on the two smaller tokens. Used widely on public transport across the country, plastics tokens were issued by local councils as concessionary fare tokens for certain groups of people under their jurisdiction, eg. schoolchildren. These examples likely date circa 1950s-1960s. The dimensions listed are for the largest token in the group.
