Daventry Co-op milk token

Description

A yellow coloured circular token, injection moulded in polystyrene (PS). 'Cheap Milk Scheme 1 Pt' is moulded into the top face and 'Daventry Co-op. Soc. Ltd.' in the reverse. This token would be purchased at a reduced rate in the local Co-op shop to be exchanged at a later date in-store or left on the door step at home, to be collected when the milk was delivered the next morning. The tokens allowed each society to calculate demand and delivery requirements from their customers and the milk men no longer had to handle money. Plastics tokens were in use post WWI, this example likely dates circa 1950s-1960s.
