Beetleware box

Description

A circular 1930s Beetleware trinket box, made of compression moulded urea formaldehyde, with a push-on lid which is decorated with a cameo of King Edward VIII. See also PHSL : 253. Believed to be an early experimental piece moulded using Beetle moulding powder (urea formaldehyde) first released in 1925 by British Cyanides Co (to become British Industrial Plastics in 1936). This object was given by the company to the donor's grandmother, who worked as a cleaner with BIP from 1915.
