Description

A sample of Alucobond Plus, a composite panel for cladding the sides of buildings, manufactured by 3A Composites, Germany. Consisting of two aluminium sheets thermobonded to a polyethylene core through a process of continuous lamination, the material can be sawn, milled, folded and bent using standard, commercially available, tools and can be riveted, screwed or suspended onto the substructure. Light, rigid and corrosion-resistant, it is available in 86 different colours (this example is silver metallic) and offers a flat finish, providing architects with a whole range of potential applications including commercial and residential building facades, as well as automotive and marine applications, outdoor products and furniture. The manufacturer claims that Alucobond Plus will not release environmentally hazardous substances during its life cycle and is fully recyclable at end of life. Aluminium composite material (ACM) was first invented in 1964 by 3A Composites (formerly Alcan Composites & Alusuisse). It was launched as a product in 1969 and patented in 1971. This sample dates to 2021.
