Braun KF40 coffee machine

Description

A Braun KF40 automatic coffee machine, designed by Hartwig Kahlcke in 1984. The base is injection moulded in white ABS which has now discoloured to a yellow (typical of this material). The hot water tank, filter and lid are all white coloured polypropylene, the ridged pattern back containing storage for the plug. The glass jug has cup measurements along one side with a grey coloured polypropylene handle (designed to prevent the knuckles from accidentally touching the hot glass) and lid, the latter having a hole in the centre through which the coffee percolates. The hotplate is stainless steel. The KF40 Aromaster inspired a whole range of coffee machines from both Braun and other manufacturers. Kahlcke took the basic requirements of a pot, filter and tank, and integrated them into one efficient unit by wrapping the tank around the filter which swivels out for access, both being designed for one finger operation to further ease the process of making coffee. The rocker switch is centrally positioned at the front.
