Description
A trowel commemorating the laying of the foundation stone of the Bakelite Works, Tyseley, Birmingham on April 15th 1930. The metal blade of the trowel is engraved with the words : 'James Swinburne, Esq. FRS laid the foundation stone of the Bakelite Works, Tyseley, Birmingham. April 15th 1930 with this trowel. Geo Bernard Cox F.R.I.B.A. Architect. Wm. Sapcote & Sons. Contractors.' The trowel has a phenolic resin handle in a dark red colour. It is displayed on a blue velvet covered cushion and mounted within a wooden box frame. Meaurements given are for the trowel only.
