Patrick Kelly pin kit

Description

Patrick Kelly original designer pin kit. This oversized button pin badge is old stock, unused and sealed in its original packaging. Includes one red button, a metal pin clasp and a black, velvet ribbon. 'Patrick Kelly Paris' is moulded on the inner circle of the button. A short biography and instructions for use are detailed on the back of the cardboard packet. As a young, African American designer, Patrick Kelly showed his first collection in Paris in 1985 and became the first US member of the Chambre Syndicale du Pret-a-Porter des Couturiers et des Createurs de Mode in 1988, France's prestigious association of fashion designers. His career only lasted eight seasons through four years, as Kelly tragically died of AIDS-related complications on 1st January 1990, aged 35. One of his trademarks was to customise his designs with multi-coloured, mismatched buttons, a style he attributed to his grandmother's influence from childhood clothing repairs. The designer had a licensing deal with Streamline Industries to produce these bright and colourful, trademark oversized button badges. See AIBDC : 008474.
