Space blanket

Description

This heatsheet from Adventure Medical has been made using tear-resistant, aluminium-coated polyethylene that will reflect back 90% of the body's heat to aid in outdoor survival. Being fully sealed around the edges, the sheet can be used like a sleeping bag for extra protection, with the exterior being bright orange for high visibility. By turning the sheet inside out, the silver heat reflecting surface can also act as a space blanket to wrap around the casualty if they are unable to move. Weighing only 108 grammes, it is very light weight, wind and waterproof, and folds out to 213cm x 91cm full size. The sheet is a very thin, extruded, blown film that then has the metallic vapour vacuum deposited onto it. This technology was first developed by NASA in 1964 for thermal control on the exterior surfaces of spacecraft.
