Description
A boxed set of 12 nursery rhyme fairy lights, set No. 1257, made by Pifco circa 1950s. This example was bought by the donor's family in 1953. The bulbs are wired in series and have bulb holders made from compression moulded phenol formaldehyde and shades of six different coloured injection moulded polystyrene, each with a coloured transfer decoration depicting popular nursery rhymes of the era. The illustrated box depicts children around a Christmas tree. This set has ten original bulbs and two replacements. Measurements given are for the box.

printed: "PIFCO ELECTRIC FAIRLY LIGHTS for bright occasions. 200-250 VOLTS AC OR DC BRITISH MAKE. FOR USE ON A.C.OR D.C.CURRENT ANY VOLTAGE 200 TO 250 110 VOLTAGE MADE TO ORDER. DIRECTIONS. Make sure that each Bulb is screwed fully - yet not too tightly into its socket before using. Because these Bulbs are wired in series, a loose or defective Bulb would interrupt the circuit and the Set would not light up Similarly the Set will not work if any Bulb is removed. To find a faulty Bulb, remove one of the Bulbs and replace it with the spare Bulb supplied. If the Set still does not light repeat the process at the next socket, continuing from socket to socket until the Set lights up. SPARE BULBBS when required Pifco No. 257 are obtainable from your usual dealer. " (box lid)
