Sustain-It bottle

Description

The Sustain-It refillable soft drinks bottle is part of an innovative new system of purchasing vending machine drinks being trialled in the UK between the University of Reading and Coca-Cola European Partners. The refillable Tritan™ Copolyester bottle contains a microchip with radio frequency identification (RFID), installed by Validfill. Consumers pre-pay for drinks through a mobile app and then scan a code at the machine to access over 100 drinks. When the bottle is placed into the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine, the micrchip interacts with the dispensing technology to ensure the user has paid for their drink selection and track how many times the bottle has been used. In addition to reducing plastic bottle consumption, the scheme generates lower carbon emissions as the drink mixtures can be sent in concentrated form by courier as and when needed.
