A guedel airway with a blue bite reinforcement piece. Guedel airways are intended to maintain the patency of the respiratory passages through the oral cavity and pharynx after general anaesthesia and in patients unconscious for other reasons. The device is placed in the mouth with the tip towards the roof, once it is past the tongue it is rotated 180 degrees so that the tip is facing down the throat and holds the tongue forward.
