The eClean™ bedside cabinet, designed by Kinneir Dufort and manufactured by Hospital Metalcraft Ltd (Bristol Maid™), is a three-drawer bedside cabinet made from a durable easy clean polymer with a single skin design. It was developed as part of the Design Bus Out initiative (See AIBDC : 008130.1 & .2). It has fewer hard-to-reach corners and surfaces than existing cabinet designs and can be 95% recycled. Use of a radio frequency identification (RFID) lock improves the cleanliness of the drawer front. A normal mechanical lock has a barrel that is typically located on the front of the drawer; this lock type is difficult to clean, whereas the RFID lock has no features at all on the front of the drawer. The electronic lock is activated by an easy-to-clean plastic card. Features twin wheel braking swivel castors. This cabinet won the Plastics Industry Award 2010 - Industrial Product Design, the Horners Award 2010 – Horners Award for Plastics Innovation and Design and the Building Better Healthcare Award 2010 – Best Product Used in the Interior Environment.
