Description
An example of the first use in the United Kingdom of the polymer bank note. The 5 pound demonination note was issued in the UK 13th December 2016. It is printed on 'Guardian', a non-porous and non-fibrous substrate which is inpervious to liquids and difficult to tear. 'Guardian' is made by extruding and layering polypropylene and other polyolefins. Polymer banknotes incorporate a number of sophisticated security features to deter counterfeiting.
