Bakelite shoe trees

Description

A pair of bakelite or phenol formaldehyde shoe trees with toe and heel sections joined by a metal bar and a compression spring. The toe sections are split into two halves along their length and can be adjusted for with by means of a screw. The two halves are set on two compression springs. Set half way along the metal bar and just below the compression spring' which fits into the domed heel portion of the shoe, is a shaped finger hold to assist with the compression of the spring as the device is fitted into the shoe. Made in England and thought to be early to mid 20th century.
