Description

An umbrella handle made from compression moulded Parkesine (cellulose nitrate). The handle is salmon pink in colour and has faded at the crook end. There are signs of wear and use. Parkesine is the tradename for the first man-made plastic. It was invented by Alexander Parkes in 1862.
