Description

A small sample of compression moulded Parkesine (cellulose nitrate) sheet, rectangular in shape with the corners removed. The base colour of the sample is blue and it is decorated with gold coloured dots with green centres on the upper surface only, circa 1860s. Parkesine is the tradename for the first man-made plastic. It was invented by Alexander Parkes in 1862.
