Red 3D View-Master

Description

A 3D View-Master, model J (European model 10). This model was produced between 1975 and 1994, with this example being manufactured following a change in ownership to VMI, so it likely dates to the 1980s and was made in Belgium. It features a Mickey Mouse image reel. The View-Master system was invented in the late 1930s as an improved 'stereoscope', superseding the ones that had been popular at the turn of the century, as they were smaller, neater and in colour too. The View-Master's heydays were in the 1940s and 50s when they became very popular. A picture disc is inserted into the top of the viewer and by looking through the two eye pieces, at two slightly different images at the same time, a 3 dimensional image can be seen.
