Description

A Post-modern style building set made up of plastic pegs and irregular, colourful shapes, the design being reminiscent of the Memphis style. Originally a 55 piece, hand carved, hand painted, wooden play sculpture set, ZoLO was designed by Byron Glaser and Sandra Higashi in 1986 as a fun toy to inspire creativity, intended to appeal to everyone. It was sold and distributed exclusively at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and won the Accent on Design Best New Product Award. In 1992, Lucas Toys, a division of Lucas Film, became ZoLO's international licensing agent and passed production to Ertl Toys who began manufacture in ABS in 1994. The sensory appealing shapes, organic construction method, open-ended, unstructured play and defiance of age and gender sterotypes resulted in the toy being included within the Toy Industry of America's commemorative book, 100 Years of the Power of Play in 2003. This set was made in 1998 and is made from acrylonitrile butadiene styrene.
