Ring of cream coloured pearlised Poppit beads

Description

A bracelet or circle of 25 cream coloured pearlised Poppit beads each bead measuring approximately 6mm in diameter. Poppit beads, made from injection moulded polyethylene, were popular in the 1950s. Each bead has a protruding stem with a ball finial on one side, and a corresponding socket in the opposite side. When pushed together, the beads form a continuous 'string' without the aid of a thread. Pearlised finishes are particularly difficult to achieve on polyethylene mouldings. This item forms part of the Plastics Historical Society (PHS) collection.
