Parkesine plaque in mottled white, brown and blue

Description

A rectangular plaque of mottled white, brown and blue compression moulded Parkesine (cellulose nitrate) sheet, dating from the 1860s. Parkesine is the trademark for the first man-made plastic. It was invented by Alexander Parkes in 1862. This item forms part of the Plastics Historical Society (PHS) collection.
