Bayko box

Description

A hand made wooden box containing approximately 866 pieces of Bayko building construction sets, including two printed cataloges and instructions. It would appear to be an amalgamation of a number of kits. This collection comprises base plates, roof parts, corner pieces, chimney stacks, brick panels of various sizes and configurations, window frames and doors. Building construction is achieved by inserting metal rods into base plates and slotting bricks and window frames between pairs of rods. The name Bayko was derived from Bakelite, the material used to make the early sets. These sets were available from 1934 to 1967, designed by Charles Plimpton and manufactured by the Plimpton Engineering Company Ltd. Dimensions given are for the complete box. This item forms part of the Plastics Historical Society (PHS) collection.
