Black table ashtray

A black coloured table ashtray, compression moulded in melamine formaldehyde (MF) as two pieces that slot together. Designed by Anna Castelli Ferrieri for Kartell in 1979, this ashtray was available for sale until 1996. Style 4637, complete with original box, the ashtray has 18 grooves around the edge to hold cigarettes, and a series of holes in the middle for stubbing out. Ash then collects in the bottom tray. Unused condition. Anna Castelli Ferrieri (b. 1918- d. 2006) was an Italian architect and industrial designer. She is renowned for working with plastics and co-founded Kartell in 1949, an Italian contemporary furniture company. For other examples of her work, see AIBDC : 006878, 009335 and 009337.
