Description

An XCountry 118 touring pulk, designed and manufactured by Fjellpulken, Norway, a company who have been making pulks and sleds since 1963. A pulk is a low-slung, small sled, commonly towed behind a skier to transport supplies and particularly popular in the Nordic countries. Boat shaped to glide on top of the snow, they were traditionally made from natural materials but modern examples are now made in plastics providing a robust, durable, rigid, lightweight and affordable alternative. The XCountry 118 is small, easy to manoeuvre and fits easily into the back of a car. Weighing just 4.5 kg, it has a 185 litre load capacity; the equivalent of two rucksacks. The hull is made from glass-reinforced polyester, the covers made of RipStop polyester with a YKK zipper, PVC rubber parts on the sides, nylon straps and UTXflex buckles and aluminum pop rivets for fastening. The runners are also made from a plastics material but unidentified. The hull is hand-casted in a mould and dried before the covers are attached and the runners and shaft attachments are mounted. See AIBDC : 009131.1 for a harness and AIBDC : 009131.2 for pulling ropes.
