Description
A black coloured sports hijab, made of a Tencel/polyester/elastane mix that is lightweight, breathable, hygenic, sweat and water resistant. In medium/large size, the stretch fabric provides a close fit and can be worn layered over or under clothing. Made by Under-Rapt, founded by Yasmin Sobeih, a British-Egyptian designer offering sustainably made activewear for modesty-conscious consumers. Although based in the United Kingdom, most of the company's customers are from the Middle East and South East Asia. Sobeih conceptualised the athletic hijab in 2015 as part of her postgraduate studies at the London College of Fashion. She started selling the sports hood in 2017, made from Tencel from Lenzing AG, a company that manufactures cellulose fibres, based in Austria. Tencel is a brand name for Lyocell, first developed in the 1970s, with Lenzing beginning commercial production in the 1990s. It uses a more sustainable way of producing wood-based semi-synthetic fibres, with non-toxic chemicals that are recovered and reused. The fibre is a sub-category of rayon.
